July 2008 to Oct 2008 (4 Mon): MPLS/WAN Migration at T-Systems Düsseldorf
MPLS/WAN Migration Processing Customer Deployment Orders for assignment of VRFs, as well as to migrate IP-traffic to exclusive IPLS zones at Datacenters throughout Germany.
Equipment used: Cisco C7600, C6500 C3800 and C3800
Technologies: MPLS, QOS, X.25, X.31, BGPv4 and OSPF.
Aug 2007 to Jun 2008 (11 Mon): Global VPN Migration to Cisco at Schott-Zeiss in Jena
Global VPN Migration Planning and deployment of a global VPN-Migration at Carl-Zeiss/Schott Glass in Jena, from Watchguard/Nortel to Cisco IOS:
Equipment used: Cisco C2811, C1812 and C871.
Technologies used: High-Availability (involving MPLS, HSRP, EIGRP, OSPF, IP SLA and ISDN Dialer-Watch), PPTP-Dialin, QOS, Splitt-Tunnelling, PPPoE and PPPoA.
A total of 150 connections - basically a Hub-and-Spoke topology with the Hub at Jena; but cross-connects as well.
Documentation: The assignment and administration of IP addresses and DNS Names was done on a QIP Server; Network documentation was prepared and handed over to the monitoring team.
April 2007 to Jul 2007 (4 Mon): CCIE Lab preps; Projects in Belgium and City of Troisdorf
CCIE Lab Prep; Small Projects I was preparing for my a 3rd CCIE Lab attempt in Brüssels. I did also carry out the following activities during the period:
CCIE Written status was successfully renewed in June 2007.
Deployment of a Wireless LAN for the company NMC Raeren in Belgium, using Aironet AIR-AP1242AG Access Points.
Writing a project proposal for the City Council of Troisdorf, about upgrading the LAN and WAN Network.
September 2006 to March 2007 (7 Months): Computacenter AG, Cognis Corporation, USA
Global Network Migration Member of the Cognis GOP (Global Outsourcing Project) team, assigned to migrate the Cognis network in the Americas, to the Computacenter Network Operations Center
Activities include Migration planning, Network Architecture review and the writing of transition documents
As well as travel to the USA, to implement the pilot phase of the migration.
The migration invloves upgrading the infrastructure for high-availability and applying uniform network security standards throughout the Cognis Global Network.

January 2005 to August 2005 (8 Months): IBM Mittelstandsysteme Meerbusch
VPN/MPLS
The existing frame-relay WAN Hub-and-Spoke Topology was migrated into VRFs for each Customer accessing resources at the central site via WAN. This is to improve security for Customers by isolating them.
The LAN Topology at the Central site was likewise separated into Extended Premises - where Customers can access their own resources exclusively, and Shared Premises - where Customers can access shared Services.
The Business requirement for minimum interruption of the Customers Production Traffiic was observed throughout the Planning and Deployment phases of the migration.
December 2004 (5 days): On-Site Coaching at Linde KT GmbH Mainz
Coaching (2nd time) On-Site training and coaching of Staff, charged with the management and monitoring of the Layer-2 und Layer-3 Network.
The training objective was, to convey the skills and knowledge necessary to select and configure the available Cisco equipment as well as to independently carry out troubleshooting.

November 2004 (2 weeks): Testing the SIP VoIP Software and Hardware products for T-Online Germany in Darmstadt
SIP VoIP Lab Test Testing the SIP VoIP Software - including Hardware Products - for T-Online, an Internet Service Provider.
Carrying out the testing in a Lab, using and adapting the Test Script.
Error tracking und Documentation of Test activity.
The following Hardware components were tested: Fritz!Box Fon, Analog Telephones, DSL Modems and Routers from T-Com.
September to November 2004 (3 Months): Worked for T-Systems International (TSI) in the Role as Rollout Specialist at KarstadtQuelle AG Essen
Migration to MPLS Participated in migrating an enterprise frame-relay network of 368 sites to an MPLS-based VPN Network.
All routers at the customer sites were migrated to the ISP's MPLS-based backbone network with the minimum disruption to production traffic.
OSPF, DLSW, and BGP Protocols were reconfigured accordingly.
Other tasks included Hardware planning, Organisation and Documentation.
August to September 2004 (2 Months): Carried out a rollout for Hewlett-Packard at General Electric Medical Care Clinics in Germany and Austria
LAN Rollout Carried out a Rollout to expand the existing LANs in 10 clinics in Germany (9 sites) and in Austria (1 site), using Cisco 3550 Switches.

Converting a flat IP Network into a VLAN -based Network using Cisco 3500 und 4500 Catalyst switches.
Implementing DHCP, HSRP, NAT-on-a-Stick and callback for Remote Clients on 2xCisco 3640A routers. The software was IOS v12.2 (8) T5.
Configuring IPSec connections on Cisco 1700 routers for the leased lines.

Wireless-LAN Wireless-LAN Site Survey und consulting on the installation of Cisco ACS for IEEE 802.1 x authentications.
Site-Survey to determine the needs for Access-Points, the locations and sizes of wireless cells.
Advised on the choice of the security option of using IEEE 802.1x with Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine 3.2.
January 2000 to November 2003: Was a Network Engineer with Siemens AG in Cologne during which I participated in about 70 Projects
Project descriptions (demonstrative examples):
LAN Remote Access Remote sites were connected to the head office over leased-lines and dial-in connections. Access-Servers were configured to enable remote staff to dial in using ISDN, modems or cell phones.
Cisco 3620, 2620, 4500, and 7200 Router were used.
The dynamic routing protocol, EIGRP, was chosen to ensure scalability.
Hot Standby Routing Protocol (RFC 2281) was applied, to guarantee high availability and redundancy.
Making provisions for callback DDR connections.
Voice over IP Gateway The call centre application, ASPECT, was integrated into the existing Siemens HICOM voice network using Cisco Access Server AS5300 as a gateway.
Installation of a gateway to connect the 2 voice protocols, H.323 and Q.SIG.
Setting up a VoIP gatekeeper to cater for the pure IP clients.
Multi-layer Switching As a result of a company take-over, 2 LAN networks were to be restructured and made compatible to each other. A uniform IP-address standard was conceived and implemented.

Deployment of Cisco 6500, C4000, C3500 catalyst switches with Layer-2 und Layer-3 functionality.

Bandwidth reservation and the optimisation of voice transport over routers und switches.
The Class Based Weighted Fair Queuing (CBWFQ) method was implemented, taking care not to create a hold-up as a result.
