Switching to a major company I underwent the transition from project work to a more maintaining job. I reconstructed the complete calculation of personnel work of external and internal service providers to the production plants. For data analysis I developed a data warehouse with more the 100 million records. Year by year I was responsible for data extraction from previous systems and for the quality of imported and entered data throughout the whole system. Being a statistic for the board there may not be any faults in the resulting data. For this solution we used the whole Microsoft SQL Server including Integration, Analysis and Reporting Services.
With the existing codebase I realised a logistics system for another even larger pharmaceutical company. For these larger companies I optimized the picking process and integrated pick-by-light systems etc. During the years I designed and implemented some systems for product costing analysis, some interfaces to external logistics or financial systems and did lots of consulting and implementing of special wishes of my customers. Seeing no further development opportunities I left the company after 13 years.
During the implementation of the complete ERP for a chemical company in the color producing business I learned lots about logistics and managing parts lists in production. I even learned the limitations of this DOS-based software so I started developing a Windows editor for the code. This development ended up in an interpreter for this language based on Visual Basic using a CTree database server for displaying the old DOS applications onto a Windows surface. As a company decision this approach was not be used further on, so we started to re-develop the whole ERP solution in Microsoft Access. For my old pharmaceutical customer I transferred all the logic onto Microsoft Access 97 using a Microsoft SQL Server 7 as back-end database. This was just before year 2000. At the end of 1999 we were fully flooded with huge amounts of work and did software installations under pressure. The last customer I got to get him running at January 2000 I got in November 1999. So lots of hours working had to be done. These installations were already onto Microsoft SQL Server. For a new customer we did an installation on Sybase. In this case the company was this big that we had to change our approach of software developing. We started programming all the transactions in Transact SQL directly onto the SQL Server. The logistics for more than 200 stores had to be handled. I did most of the work in this case and transferred the Stored Procedures onto Microsoft SQL Server later on. In 2001 the company moved to another location.
In different projects I deepened my knowledge in database programming and in business. 1998 the company split into three parts. Unfortunately they didn't write any testimonials at this time.
Being a trainee only nominally I switched to a self-written programming language called Topcase based on CTree. I re-developed all the applications I had done for the pharmaceutical company in Topcase integrating Microsoft Word as a mail merge machine.
In 1984 I started learning BASIC. So my first semi-professional software project was a vocabulary learning utility written in Turbo Basic with 20 sold licences. Later on I worked with Open Access, an integrated SQL-based database solution. I wrote a book on Open Access IV (published by Data Becker) and did my first professional work on this platform. This was a purchasement software for building industry for a company with five branches my father worked for. The second work I did in the beginning 90s was a CRM for a pharmaceutical company I've been supporting until 2008. The whole communication to medics was managed by this application as well as the deployment of incoming orders. During my study I continued working with Open Access as a freelancer.
I am married and with our two children we live in our own house in Gimbsheim between Mainz and Worms. In my spare time I'm interested in medieval reenactment and I'm playing basket ball. I am member of PASS and Mensa.
