OCR only, when it’s really necessary

More often than not application documents are a mingle-mangle of different document types (CV, certificates, cover letters, etc.) and formats. Microsoft Word, Open Office, PDF, scanned documents (PNG, JPG, GIF, etc.) – you name it!

So long as analysing the CV is the only thing that matters in the recruiting process (so, no need for our HRmerger) and said CV is machine-readable (no scanned document), our CVlizer is perfectly capable of recognizing and processing the CV based on all kinds of criteria.

Thus, it is not necessary to first initiate an OCR-conversion for all application documents to later filter out the CV and start the actual parsing. This saves a lot of time since far less documents have to be converted to machine-readable text in a very CPU-intensive OCR process (OCR = Optical Character Recognition).

So, the CVlizer’s good nose saves valuable time during the extraction process and also resources, which can be better used someplace else –semantic analysis, the core of our application(s), for example.
